Perhaps we can build a snowman by the end of it.. that's if the snow is not accompanied by rain. BRING IT ON mother nature!!!

Yes yes.. I know the situation's worse off in other places.. but then again, those places are known to be cold and covered with snow by this time of the year!! Baltimore on the other hand normally doesn't see heavy snow till January since our weather is moderated by ocean temperatures. oh well...

Elaine

Updates

I have been a little bit too lazy to blog..

Anyway, here's some updates about my life

1. Winter is here! We're heading for sub zero temperatures. That's pretty upsetting. I don't like the cold. We had our first heavy snow showers last Saturday (These normally don't come till January.. oh well..), and it looks like there's going to be heavy snow over this weekend too.. boohoo. I saw some kid all dressed up and out checking out the snow when it first started last Saturday.. ppfftt.. new kid. :P

2. Hong hong got scratched!! It was a hit and run. We were parked at Walmart and some car scrapped against our bumper while we were shopping. The bad news is the scratch was rather deep, and about an inch wide and 3-4 inches long. The good nes is the scratch is only along the bumper which is made of fiber glass and won't rust. So we don't really need to get it touched up any time soon.

3. I'm officially in my late 20's. It's all down hill from here..

4. I am now eligible for the free H1N1 vaccine at my school. Will go queue up to get a shot soon. Although I was first complaining to my friend about how they wouldn't let me get the vaccine cause I was too old.. yea sure let all the old people die while you slowly vaccine the young ones.. pppfftt!!!

5. Exam on Sunday. SUNDAY!!! !#!@$#@#$@!#@

Elaine

Fire at Marylander!

Marylander is the apartment which I live in.. and yes there was a fire yesterday. When the fire trucks first pulled up, I thought it was just another false alarm, some guy forgot to turn off his stove again. But then.. not too long after the firemen rush into the building, the fire alarm went off! We had to run down 10 flights of stairs!! Gosh.. the first floor was filled with smoke, it was pretty scary.

Anyway, turns out that it wasn't all that big of a fire. The overworked and under maintained dryers in the laundry room over heated and caught fire! Some dude's clothes were burnt(friend of a friends.).. the poor guy needs a new wardrobe now.. all the smoke took about an hour to clear, so we were out in the cold for an hour! brr.. luckily we were properly dressed. some people were in shorts.. one lady had her hair filled with bright curlers (we sneakily took a pic of the bright colors.), others were carrying their pets out (our apartment allows animals..), there was this one lady who was dragging her dog and cat cage.. pity those animals. But anyway, nobody was hurt, so all is fine and dandy.. hmm.. i wonder if i can do my laundry this week??

Elaine

Filming at JHU

A bunch of people came to film at JHU over the past 2 days. The movie is called "The Social Network" which stars Justin Timberlake. Being the typical kay poh.. I went to where filming was to see if he was there (it's just 2 minutes away from where I work..).

1st disappointment. No Justin Timberlake. Turns out that he's not part of the scenes that they were filming here. I think some other small time actor was on set.

2nd disappointment. They are pretending this is Harvard!! HARVARD!! I mean come on.. why can't they just say its hopkins? They event went to the extend of changing one of our hall names from Latrobe to Kirkland House. Boohooo.. i guess harvard's too high and mighty to allow filming on campus that they have to come to lowly hopkins. Oh well.. they should have atleast compensated by sending in Justin timberlake. Booo~~~

3rd disappointment. I was not talent spotted by the producers to act as a kelefeh.. haha just kidding. :)

Elaine

PUMPKIN!!!!

Pumpkins are so fun to carve! But it turns out that they can be rather tough and difficult to work with, especially if you don't have the right tools to work with..

Me working hard..

The final product!! hehe.. not too bad for a hand drawn pumpkin right???

Normal pumpkins for carving are orange in color, but since we were so last minute, the stores ran out of normal ones so we had to get these albino's. Although.. orange pumpkins were abundant this morning at the farmers market.. I wonder how are they going to get rid of so many pumpkins in such a short time??

Elaine
Thursday, October 29, 2009

Life in Baltimore sure is exciting. It was once the 3rd most dangerous city in the US.. (right now it's down to 10th I think), but as you drive through the city, you'll see boarded up houses everywhere and people just sitting around the street corners looking dangerous. I would hate to ever have to track through certain parts of the city, at night or in the morning. Fortunately, they created this "safe" perimeter around the school where police presence is abundant, so walking around school is still alright. But just another block or two down, and you're once again in an area with boarded up houses and suspicious looking people hanging around. No, you would not want to venture into those areas, even when you're not alone.

Yesterday, as I walked to school, some guy ran passed me. Seconds later, two police car with sirens blaring appeared and cornered him one block down. Thankfully the dude didn't have a gun with him.. I suppose he was just a drug addict or suspicious looking character running away from the cops? Due to our cities tremendous reputation, everybody here reacts with full force to all situations, even if its a simple little crash, or a small alarm set off by an over cooked meal. 7 fire trucks pulled up to my apartment once when my neighbor left his stove on for too long (There was a lot of smoke..). The guys in uniform had a nice catch up time below when it appeared that nothing serious was going on. Though the first one on scene had to go into the guys apartment to help him open his window.. haha.. :P Two days ago an accident occurred outside my apartment, 2 fire trucks, 1 ambulance and 5 police cars arrived. One kaypohchee stood at her window to observe. One of the passengers was stuck in the car and the fire department had to use some hydraulic system to pry her out! but i think everybody was alright. Anyway, I guess it's always better to over react and find out that nothing serious happened, then to underreact and find out that a lot more man power is needed.

So that's baltimore. The greatest city in America.

Monday, October 05, 2009

Did you know that oversleeping can cause headaches?? What do you do when you get headaches from oversleeping? Sleep less? Sleep more? Hmm..
Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Some kid from hopkins killed a robber with whoosh of a samurai sword last night. The "victim" was somebody who breaks into people's houses for a living. Most of the comments I've read say that the kid should be awarded a medal.. ahhh.. I guess everybody is just sick of breakins! Maybe I should get a samurai sword too?

Elaine

Parallel Parking

By the end of this year.. I'll be the queen of parallel parking!! Yeah.. it happens that 90% of parking spots found in baltimore are side parking which means I have to parallel park. Boohooo.. I now have an average of 3 tries before parking to perfection with the occasional single swift try (which is rather rare these days).

Elaine

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

Summer is almost over.. boohooo
